This is a clock compass what you do is
Hold a stick on the center of the clock until
The shadow of the stick is on whatever the
Time is of the day, then half way between
The shadow and 12:00 is north in the
Northern hemisphere and south in the southern
Hemisphere

This is the first I have heard of such a compass. This looks like a very useful tool when hiking in the wilderness. It could be helpful to individuals that work in rescue services like confined space rescue or high angle rescue when all other resources are unavailable.

I like your clock compass presentation. The only suggestion I have is that for accuracy you need to be using "standard time." So, before starting the procedure, a one hour adjustment is required if daylight savings time is currently in force, like in the summer.
